Not sure if it was a wise thing to do, but I got out for a run this morning, circumnavigating the taman, for the first time in quite a few years. Since running at West Coast Park earlier this year didn't do me any lasting damage I thought it worth taking the risk of trotting around the estate and getting a bit of exercise here. And it was certainly enjoyable. In distinct contrast to working out in the gym, I don't feel running in the open air to be any kind of imposition. Far from it, in fact; it feels something like freedom.
And then there's the sense of genuinely getting up close to where we live. It engenders a feeling of something like belonging. There's so much detail to take in of the happy ordinariness of it all, of life just going on.
